The number of fixed broadband subscribers is expected to reach 1.07 billion worldwide by the end of 2022, according to a report by Point Topic. The 1 billion mark will likely be breached sometime in 2020. The research bureau said it has lifted its global forecast to end 2021 by 1.52 percent.
Growth potential in South and East Asia remains huge and numbers are expected to continue growing at a healthy rate through to 2022 and beyond. The region already has twice the number of broadband connections compared to the next largest broadband region of Western Europe.
Other regions are expected to report slow but steady growth until at least 2022 The report looked broadband forecasts for 114 countries.
