The search giant announces partnerships with Visa and Mastercard to simplify mobile web purchases.
It’s going to get a whole lot easier to use Android Pay for mobile web purchases.
Google on Monday announced new partnerships with Visa and Mastercard that will eventually allow Android Pay users to shop on thousands of sites where Visa Checkout or Masterpass are accepted. This should eliminate the need for you to remember multiple usernames and passwords for individual retailers.
Unlike with Apple Pay, online retailers have been a little slow to adopt Android’s mobile payment system. However, in announcing the partnership, the search giant pointed out that its open platform makes Android Pay integration easy for merchants and developers, and merchants who already use Visa Checkout or Masterpass on their sites will instantly benefit from the partnerships.
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to take advantage of the new options for this holiday shopping season: Visa Checkout and Masterpass won’t be integrated within the Android Pay app until early 2017.
