Isle of Man telecom companies news

Two of the island’s leading telecommunications firms have announced exciting deals for their customers.

ManxTelecom are explaining how their army of customers love the new Unlimited mobile tariff.

Sure are meanwhile saying the island could be third in the world for speed with its new 4G broadband.

It all spells good news for customers as the companies go for great deals.

Manx Telecom is based at Isle of Man Business Park while Sure’s base is Atlantic House, Circular Road.

Manx Telecom says thousands of ’happy’ customers have moved to a new Smartroam tariff since the new packages were launched during the summer with inclusive UK and EU allowances for texts, minutes and data.

The company also says it became the first Isle of Man operator to offer a completely unlimited allowance of minutes, texts and data for use on the island.

Al Lugton, mobile product manager at Manx Telecom, says their flagship Smartroam Unlimited tariff is proving to be a very popular choice.

He said: ’Smartroam Unlimited offers outstanding value because it’s the Isle of Man’s first, and only, truly unlimited on-island mobile tariff. It’s also great value for customers travelling to the UK and EU with 5GB data, 500 minutes call time, and 500 texts of inclusive roaming allowances.

’At £65 per month, Smartroam Unlimited is available to both existing and new customers and we’re offering a wide range of the latest smartphones with no upfront costs for those who are either looking to renew their contract or switching back to Manx Telecom.

’Our new Smartroam tariffs are all part of our drive to provide customers with more affordable, simpler and better value roaming than ever before.’

Smartroam was launched at the same time as the company announced up to 90 per cent reductions in data roaming costs for all mobile customers.

Manx Telecom claims it now has 380 roaming agreements with all major networks, including those in the most popular destinations visited by Isle of Man residents for business or pleasure.

Meanwhile Sure is trumpeting an unlimited 4G broadband service in the island with speeds that rival home broadband services.

Sure claims broadband services in the Isle of Man were recently ranked 50th in the world in a cable.co.uk survey, putting the island only one place ahead of Kenya.

But the company claims that if the survey took into account the speed of Sure’s new 4G broadband the island would be in the top three in the global rankings.

Customers’ data needs have expanded in recent years with the proliferation of streaming services such as BBC iPlayer and Netflix and the company says the new product is equipped to deal with the speed and capacity that these require.

Sure’s 4G broadband is available with two options, with download speeds of up to 20Mbps and up to 40Mbps offering unlimited data usage.

These new products do not require a phone line and instead consist of a router that connects directly to Sure’s multi-million pound, state-of-the-art 4G+ network for internet access, giving customers an alternative to traditional fixed line broadband services for the first time.

Sure chief executive Mike Phillips believes that the product offers choice to Isle of Man consumers and is a ’superior alternative to fixed line broadband’.

He said: ’A fast and reliable internet connection is an expectation of modern life. Our 4G+ broadband service, which uses Sure’s state-of-the-art mobile network, gives customers access to a fast and consistent internet connection at home, something many Isle of Man residents struggle with because of the island’s existing, ageing broadband infrastructure.

’If all Isle of Man residents used the 40Mbps 4G broadband service the island would be ranked third in the world in the cable.co.uk rankings, which is a huge improvement.
